Houston’s new set usage system to address inflated water bills to be reflected in May statements
New Mayor John Whitmire’s “Water Bill Improvement Plan,” in which single-family residential customers will temporarily be charged a fixed monthly amount, took effect April 1. The initiative eliminated Houston Public Works’ previous practice of charging estimated amounts to customers with faulty electronic meter-reading devices, which in many cases led to residents being charged for much more water than they actually used.

EPA announces new regulations for Public Water Systems
On April 10, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a rule setting enforceable maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) in drinking water for five per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS. Russia-backed hacking group suspected of attack on US water system
