  • Friday night Orioles game thread: at Reds, 6:10pm ET

Cole Irvin is in the middle of the best stretch of his career, and he’ll look to ride that wave of success into Cincinnati to face the Reds. After making the rotation out of spring training largely due to the injuries of Kyle Bradish and John Means, there was little thought that the veteran lefty would still be in the rotation once Bradish and Means got healthy. The fact that Irvin kept his rotation spot after those two were recalled from rehab assignments speaks to just how much the former...
  • Thursday afternoon Orioles game thread: vs. Yankees, 1:05

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten to say these words, but: it’s Kyle Bradish day. The Orioles’ breakout starting pitcher of 2023, Bradish is back on the Orioles’ roster for the first time in 2024, and frankly much earlier than I’d expected. When the O’s announced on the first day of spring training that Bradish had a sprained UCL in his right elbow, my first, panicked thought — the same as many others’, I’m sure — involved the initials T and J. Welp, we’re not seeing him again until 2025, I...
  • Craig Kimbrel blows it again as Orioles lose to Athletics, 7-6

The Orioles have a pitching staff problem. Perhaps that should be more focused: The Orioles have a bullpen problem. Or maybe even more zoomed in still: The Orioles have a Craig Kimbrel problem. The closer returned to the mound on Sunday afternoon looking to put the memory of Friday’s disaster behind him and all of the rest of us. Kimbrel blew it, recording zero outs before leaving the game mid-batter with an injury or “injury” but in either case he stuck around long enough to give up two runs...
  • Athletics 3, Orioles 2: Kimbrel melts down in ninth inning, O’s lose in extras.

An implosion by Craig Kimbrel in the ninth inning meant a wasted Corbin Burnes start, and a 2-1 loss for the Orioles to begin a weekend series against the Athletics. Before we get to that, perhaps the biggest long-term takeaway from this game was the Orioles’ new on-field look. As usual, they donned their City Connect jerseys for a Friday home game, but this time they altered the outfit just a tad. Instead of the corresponding black pants, they opted for the more traditional white trousers to...
  • Orioles wrap up a quick west coast swing this afternoon

Good morning, Birdland! That could have gone better. The Orioles lost 7-4 to the Angels in the early morning hours here on the east coast. The scoreline belies just how gruesome the game felt. Grayson Rodriguez had a stinker, and the offense couldn’t do enough against a starter that entered the game with an 8.05 ERA. On top of that, the Yankees did manage to beat the Athletics earlier in the day, ending the O’s perch atop the AL East after only a few hours. Of course, there is still some good...
